Cancer Family Care Honors OHC Unsung Heros
OHC providers were once again recognized by patients and peers on May 19 at the 2015 Joslin Haggart Yeiser Unsung Hero Award banquet held by Cancer Family Care. Over 350 individuals attended this event which honors oncology professionals, caregivers and patients from the Tri-State community.
The following individuals from OHC were recognized at this prestigious event:
Dr. Edward J. Crane was nominated by patient Priyanka Ranatunga. When Priyanka was first diagnosed with Stage IV lung cancer, she turned to Dr. Crane. At her first visit with him, he put her mind at ease. Wrote Pryanka, “He truly cared about me and my family and is open-minded and compassionate.” Cancer Family Care social worker Jim Schwartz also nominated Dr. Crane for his awareness of patients’ “psychosocial and spiritual needs.”
Dr. Douglas B. Flora was nominated by patient Judy Hill. According to Judy, “Dr. Flora, in addition to being a truly wonderful person, is an amazing physician who truly cares for his patients.” She added that he has a way of making his patients feel at ease, even in the worst of circumstances, and helped her make the decisions along the way in her treatment path.
Dr. David Pratt was nominated by patient Melissa Myers. Melissa noted, “Dr. Pratt changed my whole outlook on life. He was amazing! I’m not sure that he will ever know the magnitude of having him as a doctor has had on me.” She noted that he helped her to understand the treatments and make the decisions that were best for her and never rushed her out of her appointments.
Lynnetta Hart, BS, M.Ed, CCRC was nominated by OHC physician, Dr. David Waterhouse, for her leadership in clinical research. The OHC Research Director is a tireless advocate for cancer research and quality cancer care treatment in the Tri-state. Lynnetta is one such cheerleader!”
