Make plans now to attend a free informative seminar for women titled “I Know My Genetic Risk for Cancer.” The event takes place from 10 a.m.-noon on Saturday, May 6 at the Mayerson JCC, located at 8485 Ridge Road, Cincinnati, OH 45236.

A panel of experts will detail how family history and genetics affect an individual’s risk of developing breast and ovarian cancer.

Attendees can also get their annual screening mammogram at this casual, informative event. The agenda is as follows:

  • 10–10:30 a.m. – Check-in, hors d’oeuvres
  • 10:30–11:30 a.m. – Keynote speaker Lori White, PhD. Lori learned she was at risk for carrying a BRCA gene mutation over 20 years ago and has since become a passionate advocate for patients living with hereditary cancer syndromes. As a molecular geneticist and mother of a child with disabilities, Lori has a unique perspective on genetic testing and on the complexities of making personal medical decisions.
  • 11:30 a.m.–noon – Panel discussion and Q&A featuring
    • Karyn Dyehouse, MD, OHC medical oncologist and hematologist
    • Jennifer Hopper, LGC, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital genetic counselor
    • Elizabeth Levick, MD, OHC radiation oncologist
    • Hilary Shapiro-Wright, DO, Mercy Health breast surgeon
    • Elizabeth Weaver, MD, PRI radiologist

The Mobile Mammography Unit will be on site offering screening mammograms from 9:30 a.m.–2 p.m. To schedule a mammogram, call 513-686-3300 or simply walk in. Most insurance carriers cover mammography. Contact your insurance carrier to verify that The Jewish Hospital — Mercy Health is an in-network provider.
