February 22, 2021
Nadeem Khan, MS, DABR, Chief Medical Physicist at OHC, was recently awarded a prestigious Fellowship from the American College of Radiation Oncology (ACRO). ACRO, a global body, is the essential professional society for success in the day-to-day practice of radiation oncology.
The Fellowship award is one of the most prestigious honors ACRO can bestow on a radiation oncologist or medical physicist. Of the 231 ACRO Fellows, Khan is one of only six physicists nationally to receive this designation. When asked about the honor, Khan said, “This recognition reinforces OHC’s commitment to surrounding cancer patients with high quality care and expertise throughout their personal battle with cancer.” Khan provides radiation oncology care at OHC West and Fairfield locations.
To be eligible for the Fellowship, ACRO requires a minimum of 10 years consecutive membership and commendable service to the College before a nomination is considered. In Khan’s case, he was eligible after five years for demonstrating extraordinary service to the College. “A valued expert, Nadeem leads the OHC team of physicists and dosimetrists who are integral members in the delivery of our radiation services to our patients. He has played an essential role in the launch of ACRO’s virtual audit system for physics and has been a surveyor since 2016. Khan also assists in the training of future auditors for ACRO,” notes Joseph N. Shaughnessy, MD, Chair of OHC’s Radiation Oncology Department.
ACRO will present the award to Khan at its virtual summit February 24-27.
