From OHC, Specialists in the Treatment of Adult Cancers and Blood Disorders

Testicular cancer is one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers in young adult men, particularly between ages 30 to 39. If the cancer hasn’t spread, the survival rate is 99%.
However, once it has spread to other organs, the survival rate drops to 73%.
“Testicular cancer can be treated effectively when it’s caught early,” said OHC’s Randy Drosick, MD, noted medical oncologist and hematologist. “That’s why it’s important not to ignore any symptoms, unusual pain or lumps and contact your doctor right away.”
When 32-year-old Daniel Garber took a spill during a spirited game of volleyball, he thought the pain he was experiencing was due to the fall. When it didn’t go away, he sought medical advice and found out it was testicular cancer. After surgery to remove the tumor, it later returned and spread to his lymph nodes.
“From the very beginning, I was hoping to avoid chemotherapy based on what I had heard about the side effects. Now that the cancer had spread, I knew I had to have it,” Daniel explained. “It wasn’t easy, but the time seemed to pass quickly, and it wasn’t as daunting as I thought it’d be.”
Daniel attributes his experience to the team at OHC’s Eastgate office.
“Dr. Drosick is great. I like that he gets right to the point and tells me what I’m there to hear,” said Daniel. “And he helped me with the side effects from chemotherapy, what I was fearing the most about having cancer.”
“I’m lucky that I didn’t ignore the pain I was having. I got it checked and contacted OHC. Now that I’ve finished my treatments, I’m in remission and I feel great. I’m back in shape and I’m ready to get back to volleyball. And I’m grateful to Dr. Drosick and the team at OHC for giving me that chance.”
