Joseph N. Shaughnessy, MD, is a radiation oncologist whose interests include breast cancer, head and neck cancer, lung cancer, prostate cancer, gastrointestinal cancer and skin cancer. For Dr. Shaughnessy, the field of cancer care represents a very complex part of the biology of the human body, the understanding of which is constantly evolving and advancing. As part of every consultation, he takes the time to get to know each patient thoroughly to understand what their knowledge is and what their goals of care are.
“Each cancer diagnosis represents a clinically unique situation that rarely fits a ‘one size fits all’ approach. Combining an in-depth understanding of both the patient and the tumor biology allows me to offer the most personalized care for each patient.”
Dr. Shaughnessy strives to provide patients with the optimal balance of compassion and clinical expertise. He feels that this balance is critical in helping patients navigate a cancer diagnosis. He works diligently to provide the highest level of care to each patient.
When he’s not working, Dr. Shaughnessy participates in community events to increase awareness of cancer prevention and treatment, especially head and neck cancers. He also enjoys spending time with his family, playing sports, brewing craft beer, and following trends in modern technology.

Patient Reviews
I felt as if I was the most important patient in his office. – K.M., November 2020
Treated my cancer, the absolute best. As a nurse, I see and hear many patient experiences. My experience was excellent. No one wants to be given that diagnosis but having OHC was a blessing. – L.F., October 2020
Everyone has been great. Cancer is tough on anyone and to have a team of people from the doctors, the nurses, the technicians and the people at the front desk, make this chapter much easier to get through. – J.L., September 2020
