The cancer experts at OHC have been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in radiation oncology from the American College of Radiology (ACR), following an extensive and detailed review of the practice’s procedures, staff, equipment, facilities, and specific treatment cases.
The ACR seal of accreditation represents the highest level of quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting specific Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards developed by ACR after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified radiation oncologists and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Patient care and treatment, patient safety, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs are assessed.
“We are honored to receive this independent validation of the high quality of radiation treatment we provide our patients. It’s an exhaustive review and a credit to the commitment of our dedicated physicians and staff,” said Joseph N. Shaughnessy, MD, Chair, OHC Department of Radiation Oncology. “The review process serves as an important opportunity for us to demonstrate our commitment to the highest standards for radiation oncology treatment.”
OHC voluntarily participated in ACR’s rigorous review process. Accreditation confirms:
- OHC meets nationally-accepted standards of care.
- OHC doctors and staff are highly-qualified through education and certification to perform medical imaging, interpret images, and administer radiation therapy treatments.
- OHC’s facilities meet, and in some cases exceed, quality assurance and safety guidelines.
- Their equipment is appropriate for the tests or treatments.
“The doctors and staff at OHC have always adhered to the highest standards of care, quality and safety for our patients. This accreditation confirms that our exceptional team of cancer experts have upheld that commitment and have met the highest level of imaging quality and radiation safety,” said Paul M. Dieter, Executive Director at OHC.
